Think Green...
You may be aware of the terms ‘Green Build’, ‘Ecohomes’, 'Code for Sustainable Homes', or other similar variations. You may have wondered what it's all about. It's mostly to do with designing new homes to be environmentally friendly, efficient and sustainable, to provide a greener more pleasant place to live, not only for the environment but also for our health and well being. The 'Code for Sustainable Homes' is a more recent initiative developed by the Government and, from 1st May 2008, is mandatory. (Click here for more information on the Code).
The Code means that there is now an obligation
to reconsider the ways in which a building is designed. With all the different
materials and product choices available it can be difficult, and sometimes
confusing, to choose the right product for your building. This is where Timber
Frame steps in. It is the ideal product for creating almost any new build or
extension, its excellent green credentials it is almost carbon neutral &
sustainable, renewable and has low embodied energy. Whatever level of the Code
you require to achieve, or budget you have, Timber Frame is the ideal choice.

Here at SMS Timber Frame we don’t just supply the typical, we can also supply timber frame systems to meet your needs. Like more advanced timber frame systems such as an I beam wall panel. The I beam system is very similar to the one shown above, one major difference being that the timber frame studs are replaced with an I beam. The great advantage of the I beam is that the profile of the beam minimises the transfer of heat through the panel and, with the increased depth of the beam, means that more insulation can help to provide better U Values (For more information on what U-Values are, and some typical examples, please click here).
